Kenya hosts the third harm reduction exchange as the focus centres on tobacco harm reduction initiative. Stakeholders in the health
The Harm Reduction Exchange is aimed at convening and engaging physicians, scientists, and health policy experts with media stakeholders from the PAE Region. It will be held over a full day, with keynote addresses, panel discussions and open floor discussions, on harm reduction as an overall topic and Tobacco harm reduction as a specific focus. Topics covered in the agenda will revolve around key areas where harm reduction is critical such as, illicit drugs, alcohol, tobacco, sugar, skin lightening products and services amongst others. Integra Africa, a Pan African strategy agency, will host the event in partnership with Oxygene MCL agency based in Nairobi, Kenya. This event will follow on from the 2nd Harm Reduction Exchange held in hybrid format in December 2022.
The event is organized under the theme ‘Amplifying the Voice of Harm Reduction Advocacy in Africa’, which will be held on the 19th of October 2023 in Nairobi, Kenya. The media play a critical role in accelerating the progress towards the full uptake of harm reduction strategies in all spheres of health across the continent. With the advent of technology, we find that misinformation and disinformation is becoming increasingly prevalent with the democratization of the information space. Moving forward there is a need to ensure that stakeholders are well informed with current and relevant information about the science as well as what changes and advances towards a smoke free world have taken place in the industry since the Harm Reduction Exchange in 2022.
